Saint Scholastica for Kids | Love That Trusts God

Feb 2
2 min read

Scholastica and her brother Benedict meet to speak about God. When the visit seems about to end, her prayer is followed by the storm described in Gregory the Great's traditional account, allowing their conversation to continue through the night.

The free resources help children recall the story while understanding prayer as trust rather than control. A conversation card invites families and classrooms to make attentive time for thanksgiving, questions, and intercession.

Available free on YouTube since February 2, 2026. Watch the complete video above. Runtime: 2:39. Suggested ages: about 7–11.

Talk about it together

Why did Scholastica enjoy meeting Benedict?

What did she do when he wished to leave?

Does prayer let us control weather or other people?

How can you make time for loving conversation?

A conversation to treasure

Make a small conversation card: One thing I thank God for, One question I want to ask, and One person I want to pray for. Use it with a partner or adult to practice listening without rushing. Connect your card with the siblings' night of speaking about God.

A note for parents and teachers

The video includes thunder, lightning, and a brief account of Scholastica's death. Explain that prayer is trust, not a way to control weather or guarantee a desired outcome.

The story comes from Gregory the Great's Dialogues, Book II, chapters 33-34, a traditional saint account. It does not promise that sufficient love produces the requested miracle. Storms and bereavement may need gentle discussion.

Pray together

God, teach us to pray with love and trust your wisdom. Saint Scholastica, pray for us. Amen.
