Saint Lucy for Kids | A Light in the Darkness
Updated: Oct 18
Discover the inspiring story of Saint Lucy of Syracuse, a young Christian martyr whose courage and kindness brought light to a time of fear and persecution. Lucy came from a wealthy family in ancient Sicily, but she chose to use what she had to care for the poor, comfort the sick, and serve fellow Christians. When she was ordered to abandon her faith in Jesus, she remained steadfast, trusting that the light of Christ could never be overcome by darkness. This gentle animated Catholic story introduces children to Saint Lucy’s life, her devotion to Christ, her care for her mother and the poor, and the courage that made her one of the Church’s most beloved early martyrs. Saint Lucy’s feast day is celebrated on December 13. Her name means “light,” and Christians throughout the world remember her with candles and prayers, especially during the dark days of winter. Saint Lucy, pray for us, and help us carry the light of Jesus into the world.
After watching, families and catechists can talk about one moment that stood out, what it shows about following Jesus, and one small way to put that lesson into practice this week.
