Saint Damien of Molokai: We Belong to One Another | Catholic Saint Story for Kids
Updated: 4 hours ago
Every person belongs. Saint Damien of Molokai lived that truth through prayer, friendship, and the everyday work of caring for his neighbors.
We Belong to One Another is a warm, cel-shaded Catholic saint story for children, families, and classrooms. Follow Damien from Belgium to Hawaii, where he shares life with residents living with Hansen’s disease and works alongside them to build a stronger community.

A lesson in respect and belonging
Damien listens, celebrates Mass, builds, and cares for his neighbors. The residents contribute their own skills and help one another. Mother Marianne Cope and the sisters join the work and help carry it forward.
The story invites children to notice people who may feel left out and choose a practical act of kindness. Being sick never makes someone less worthy of love or respect. Children can care for others with help from a trusted adult.
Runtime: approximately 6 minutes 22 seconds. Ages approximately 7–11. This narrated, illustrated retelling is based on Saint Damien’s life; some visual details are dramatized. Adults may wish to preview its gentle treatment of illness and death for younger children.

Talk about it together
What did Damien and the residents do to care for their community? How did working together show respect? Who might need a welcome, a listening ear, or a helping hand this week?
Try one small act of kindness
With a trusted adult, choose a simple way to help: welcome someone into a game, make a kind card, or contribute an item a local charity has requested. Ask what is needed and treat each person with dignity.
Pray together
Jesus, help us see every person as someone You love. Teach us to listen, welcome, and serve with kindness. Saint Damien, pray for us. Amen.
