Saint Clare of Assisi: A Life Given to God for Kids
Updated: Oct 3
Clare of Assisi heard Francis’s call to follow Christ and chose a life of prayer and simplicity. Other women joined her in a community that became known as the Poor Clares.
This retelling and its classroom activities explore trust, shared work, and generosity. The resources explain Clare’s adult vocation and turn her example into safe, age-appropriate choices for children.
Available free on YouTube since August 3, 2026. Watch the complete video above. Runtime: 4:20. Suggested ages: about 7–11.

Talk about it together
Whose preaching helped Clare recognize her calling?
What did the sisters do together?
Where did Clare turn when danger approached?
How can a child practice simplicity safely?
Make room for what matters
Draw a shelf with spaces for prayer, people, and needed things. Add one way to care for each. With an adult, choose a safe act of sharing or a few minutes of attentive prayer; keep essentials.
A note for parents and teachers
The retelling dramatizes Clare’s life and traditions about protection during attack. She was about eighteen when she left for religious life, not a child asked to run away. The Eucharist is not a magic shield. Trust in God does not require unsafe choices or neglect of food, health, or help.
Pray together
Jesus, help us trust you and care for one another. Teach us generous choices and protect people in danger. Saint Clare, pray for us. Amen.
